On this thirty-second episode of the Jiu-Jitsu Outlet podcast, I talk to Dr. Rhadi Ferguson. Dr. Ferguson is one of the most experienced and diversified grapplers in history. He has competed in Judo at the Olympics, at the ADCC world championships of submission grappling, at the IBJJF world championships, and also as a professional MMA fighter. Now retired, he teaches Judo and Jiu-Jitsu to students out of his academy in Florida. He currently holds the rank of 6th degree red & white belt in Judo and 4th degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu.
Decades of competing and teaching in the martial arts has helped Dr. Ferguson develop an informed opinion on how they help with mental development. After experiencing first how they help himself and his children, Dr. Ferguson decided to open an academy and share his love of the martial arts with his community.
On this episode of the show, Dr. Ferguson shares why he focuses on preparing his students for life off the mats. His entire academy serves to cultivate an atmosphere of professionalism and discipline that influences even how his students speak to each other.
Listen to the full interview and you will learn about why training in grappling helps with communication skills and confidence. We dive deep into how Judo & Jiu-Jitsu can help children develop and why you (if you're a parent) should make sure they're enrolled in a great program.
This is an episode you do NOT want to miss.
