Jiu-Jitsu Outlet #7: Mike Stewart - "The Pain Of Regret Weighs A TON... The Pain of Discipline Weighs A Couple Ounces."

Posted by Paul Tokgozoglu on

Training in martial arts like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, wrestling, & Muay Thai is my outlet for improving my mental health and becoming a better person.

On this seventh episode of the podcast, I interview Mike Stewart. Mike is one of the amazing BJJ instructors I have had throughout my life. Mike is a BJJ black belt under Relson Gracie and the owner/creator of Rising Tide Jiu-Jitsu Academy with locations in Maryland. With an emphasis on self defense, a fantastic kids program, and creating strong foundations, Mike's academy practices BJJ at a high level.

On this episode, we discuss Mike's thoughts on how training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the martial arts can benefit all of society. We get into a philosophical thought experiment about if controlled violence could be used to settle civil disputes or even wars. We also talk about how training in BJJ can help kids and adults develop more resilience. Mike details his thoughts on how martial arts training aids a person in their life off the mats.
